Nelson is revitalising its future —
and together, we can help it flourish.
Good Together – Whakatū Nelson connects people who want to give with local organisations, causes and ideas making a difference in Whakatū Nelson. Building on the momentum of What If Whakatū Nelson, it aims to make giving more visible, personal and local — whether that means sharing time and skills, giving money, contributing assets or leaving a legacy.
This first iteration is a pilot, highlighting organisations and initiatives in or near the city centre, reflecting What If Whakatū Nelson’s focus on revitalising central Nelson. Its initial focus is on arts, culture, community wellbeing, social support and place-based initiatives. It is not intended to represent every organisation or cause in the region, but to test a new way of connecting local generosity with opportunities to create meaningful impact.
Alongside this online directory, Good Together will bring people and organisations together through conversations, events and a city-centre activation — helping more people understand what is needed, what is possible, and how they can get involved.
Good Together – Whakatū Nelson is an initiative of Make/Shift Spaces Incorporated, building on the momentum of What If Whakatū Nelson.
“I don’t know of another festival in Nelson which brings out such a cross section of people - young and old, different ethnicities, different socio-economic groups. It brings everyone together.”

“When we go and hear all the pianists that come and play that piano, I look around and see the joy that Nelsonians are getting out of hearing the world's best pianists play – you can't buy that.”
Murray Sturgeon, Nelson Centre of Musical Arts

“We’ve supported over 500 people through the Rātā Foundation workshops alone. The most common feedback? ‘I wish I had known about this earlier’ or ‘You’ve just saved me a month’s work in 10 minutes.’ That’s when you know it’s working.”

“I opened the Nelson Mail and there was a photo of Miyazu Garden’s cherry blossom. These trees are also well known in my home country Burma. I thought, ‘Could we have a Chin garden for my ethnic community?’.”
