The Wakatū Dance Theatre Trust was established over 30 years ago, founded by Peta Spooner and her Dance Academy, to provide support and encouragement to the young people of Nelson. The Trust feels strongly about ensuring each and every child has the opportunity to dance if they wished!

Today the home of the Wakatū Dance Theatre Trust provides so much more to our community. It offers a physical space to a huge diverse range of community groups from mums bubs classes, special needs classes, elderly groups, Tai chi, community yoga, Pilates and barre, circus classes and meals for the homeless, etc.

The Trust, under the exceptional leadership of Peta Spooner, has been a beacon of inclusivity and accessibility within our community. Their commitment to providing a welcoming space for all members of the community, irrespective of background or ability, is truly commendable. The company's ethos of inclusivity ensures that their building are not only spaces for artistic expression but also hubs for fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect among community members.
