Volunteer Nelson
Young People · Community & Belonging · Charities
Three key project priorities:
$5,000 contribution toward the Youth Volunteering Coordinator role
This funding will support additional staff hours to help young people engage in volunteering through personalised support and connections with community organisations.
$10,000 contribution toward office rent and utilities
Our office provides an accessible community hub where individuals, community groups, and volunteers can connect. With annual rent and utilities of approximately $12,000, this contribution will help sustain this vital service.
$20,000 contribution toward marketing and community outreach
This funding will increase awareness of volunteering opportunities across the region and strengthen connections between volunteers and community organisations needing support.
About
For 30 years, Volunteer Nelson has been at the heart of our community, connecting people eager to give back with the many local organisations that rely on volunteers. Volunteering not only strengthens communities but also benefits individuals, with research showing that volunteers enjoy better mental and physical health than non-volunteers.
Volunteer Nelson runs targeted programmes for those who can benefit most—new migrants, people living with disabilities, young people, and older adults seeking meaningful opportunities. The Rangatahi in Community programme gives young people the chance to experience volunteering across several organisations, while the Youth into Governance programme places 10 young people each year with governance teams, mentoring them in leadership and decision-making.
Weekly library drop-in sessions also provide face-to-face support for people—often older adults—who may not be confident with technology, helping them connect with opportunities that suit their interests and skills.
Through its online platform and community partnerships, Volunteer Nelson continues to foster inclusivity, connection, and celebration—strengthening the social fabric of our region for today and future generations.
