The Nelson Jazz Club, Inc (NJC) has been an integral part of Nelson for over 30 years. It helps local musicians to connect with one another and the community, and provides high quality music for the Nelson public. The club provides opportunities for local jazz musicians and groups, and supports its own jazz big band.

Our vision is to have an inclusive and diverse community where people can play and experience jazz; and, to learn about the cultural legacies of social justice, diversity and inclusion that underpin jazz.

The impact of NJC in the Nelson community is threefold: supporting jazz musicians, music performances, and fostering youth development in music and governance. Two projects underline our impact: Youth festival/competitions and Nelson Jazz Festival. Additionally, youth are integral members of NJC committee.

The Jazz Festival has been held most years. 2025 festival was again very successful, and NJC intends to continue this cultural event for Nelson. NJC wishes to continue to grow such events, providing avenues for local youth musicians and for the Jazz Festival to create a gathering of community to encourage a sense of belonging, joy and connections through a common language: music.
