About

Fairfield House and Reserve is a much-loved heritage landmark in the heart of Whakatū Nelson. Saved from demolition in 1979, the historic house was restored by Friends of Old Fairfield through much hard work and fundraising. Now registered as Category 1 by Heritage NZ, the house and reserve continues to be a hub for community gatherings, creativity, and celebration.

Today, Fairfield is one of Nelson’s most versatile event venues. She’s elegant, full of stories, and ready to host everything in the realm of educational, spiritual, arts and life celebrations. In the past year alone, the house was in use for 237 days, welcoming thousands of visitors and supported by many volunteers. Countless locals have walked the woodland tracks, attended a workshop, concert or performance, or celebrated a milestone at Fairfield.

Our next five years will focus on strengthening community connection, upgrading facilities and walking tracks, and preserving for future generations the historic house and reserve as a prominent feature of the townscape.
