About

We check, repair and service donated bikes and make them available on a donation basis, helping more people get on bikes and out of cars. Starting in 2022, we’ve re-homed over 3,800 bikes with the help of more than 60 volunteers, giving out around 30 bikes a week that might otherwise have ended up in landfill. We receive unused bikes from people from across the region as well as from the Police, resource recovery centres and op-shops, who also bring in helmets, lights and locks.

Our impact reaches well beyond cycling. We work with social services and schools to provide bikes to former refugees, people recovering from hardship and families facing financial stress. Health professionals also refer clients to us, recognising that cycling builds both physical and mental wellbeing.

By promoting repair, reuse, and low-emission transport, Bike Hub Nelson contributes to a cleaner environment and a stronger, more connected community. Our volunteers run workshops teaching bike maintenance and assist schools with bike fleet maintenance as well as supporting the Nelson Tasman Climate Forum’s “Travel Friendly” initiative, to encourage more children to use a bike to get to school.

Bike Hub Nelson is a place of connection, where people who love biking and the outdoors come together, volunteer, and meet others who share their passion. We are filling a void and supporting a wide range of people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to experience the freedom and joy of bike riding.
